Mid Hudson and O’Connell tournaments

Ã‚Â Ã‚Â For the wrestling fans who might having wrestling withdrawals, we have been rescued with the Mid Huson and O’Connell tournaments.

Ã‚Â Ã‚Â The two-day Mid Hudson opens today (Wednesday) at Arlington. Arlington coach Fred Perry does a great job with this tournament. The head table is run by former Beacon coach Dave Ryley and former MahopacÃ‚Â head man Joe Mahoney.

Ã‚Â Ã‚Â Ã‚Â The Michael O’Connell tournament, hosted by Pearl River, is tomorrow (Thursday). The team title will be hotly-contested between Middletown and Fox Lane. Coach Joe Amuso’s Fox Lane Foxes have been downright nasty this season, mowing down everything in their path, including a 4-0 record at the Wantagh Dual-Meet tournament.

Ã‚Â Ã‚Â Ã‚Â From an individual standpoint, as has been noted on the blog, wrestling fans are anxiously looking forward to a possible Djimitry Georges (East Ramapo)-Joey Grippi (Fox Lane) matchup in either the 112-pound or 119-pound final.

Ã‚Â Ã‚Â Also, keep an eye on Pearl River’s Jeff Allison. The senior, who was a 2004 O’Connell champion, is primed to add a second title. Allison is still angry about an upset loss in last year’s semifinals. An AllisonÃ‚Â return trip to the finals could mean trouble forÃ‚Â his opponent.
