Yes! It’s officially wrestling season!

November
10

Don’t laugh, but I’ve had this date circled on my calendar from the first day of school—the first official day of wrestling practice! It does not get any better than this.

I know my friend FL Parent has been asking me for pre-season predictions, but I can’t say anything yet until I rehash the 2007-08 season and, finish up with the field hockey season.

It will be a great season even with the departure of some of Section 1’s finest wrestlers—Harrison’s Mark Arcara, now wrestling at Cortland and Mahopac’s Dominick Oddo and Pearl River’s John Coffey. However, a large, talented group of state placefinsihers returns, highlighted by Andrew Lenzi of Fordham Prep.

Just a couple of things off the top of my clean-shaven head. Former Nanuet coach Brenden Rogers is now the Clarkstown South head coach. The new Nanuet coach, and the Golden Knights are very lucky to have him, is former Clarkstown North wrestler and coach Carmine Serra. Serra also coached at Peekskill, Washingtonville and, if I remember correctly, did modified while teaching at Monroe-Woodbury. Serra will be joined by returning assistants, Rob Carbone and Roger Banta, both former fine Nanuet wrestlers. Asher Kramer, a sectional placefinisher last season, has transferred to Suffern where he will now have to face Nick Oliveto and Justin Artrip every day in practice.

    Woot !!

Looks like it may be the season of the individual as no

    team looks invincible this season.
I predict a State champ and 2nd place finisher this year

    Hey Tony

How happy are you to get away from Field Hockey? Just to let you know some former Section One wrestlers performed well at the Ithaca Invitational this past weekend. Rob Mifsud and Dave Colagiovanni placed third and Mark Arcara placed fifth in his collegiate debut. Arcara and Colagiovanni met in the wrestlebacks with Dave winning 7-6 on a riding time point. I know Mike Esteves and Dave Colombo also wrestled but I’m not sure how they did. The results are on the Ithaca wrestling web site.

I think Fox Lane looks pretty strong this year. There are 5 Grippi’s, 3 Rodrigues’ and 3 Speno’s on the team. Just kidding of course!

    Tony-

When does the coverage start in the papers? I, like you, have been looking forward to this day. Can we get some insight into the certifications this Saturday so we can start to see what the competition will shape up to be in the various weight classes

A couple days and no re hash…..what’s up dude?

We want the highlights from last year and of course your predictions for this year.

My prediction, and I’ve no kids in HS is that Joe Amuso and A-rod will win sections. From 96 to 135 they are unstoppable. Speno will wrestle where he needs to, and they’ll find some kids in the cafeteria to wrestle the upper weights. Prove me wrong. Tell me I’m nuts!

    I’m throwing down the gloves!

    Tony-

Give us another post. It’s been 13 days.

  27. Fan

Sean Conklin is working with Vic Myers at Nyack this year.
Two good wrestling men (both were Division I wrestlers)and fitness fanatics! The Nyack boys WILL be in good shape and if they pay attention at practice be a force in the third period. Most of their line up is back with a year under their belts. They should be an improved team this year.

  28. indian fan

    brundage of ossining going 152

  29. shoebox

    yay

  30. Somers

Guys Roger Banta tought at Somers for one year. He insulted students. He made fun of a kid for being in the chess club. He then made fun of seniors during the prom. I think they fired him from Somers. They should not allow him to teach or Coach anywhere.
