I guess its official…

The economic problems really hit home when i heard this. Some of our personal lives have not been affected by the financial issues facing our country but when you see something like this you really feel it. Tony did a great job and was an asset to the Journal News. Hope to hear from him.

From the selfish point of view of a fan, I was saddened to learn that Tony Pinciaro will no longer be reporting on high school wrestling. As a businessman, on the other hand, I understand that business is business. And yet even from a purely commercial perspective, I believe that you have greatly underestimated Tony’s value.

Tony is far more than a reporter. He is, of course, a terrific writer and a walking high school sports encyclopedia. But in addition, as the public face of LoHud to the wrestling community and to other sports fans in densely populated Rockland and Westchester, Tony is a major asset to your organization. You cannot put a price on the goodwill Tony generates on your behalf. If you don’t agree, you might want to spend eight or nine hours in a sweaty gym some winter Saturday in order to witness the esteem in which Tony is held by wrestlers, their parents, and their fans. The term “rock star” comes to mind. You can’t buy that kind of PR.

Any enterprise that faces the public would covet the positive image Tony creates for you in a community that is known for its loyalty and enthusiasm. I understand that times are tough; still, speaking as a businessman, I believe that letting Tony go is a very shortsighted business move. I hope you will reconsider.

I hope this isnt true. Tony does a great job and goes way beyond what I imagine he gets paid to provide the wrestling community with in depth coverage and insight. Please join Fox Lane parent and I, get off the sidelines, and write to the journal news and let them know that they need to find another way to reduce costs and not to reduce services. How could they do this right now? Not just because it is at the beginning of wrestling season but more importantly to a family man right before the holidays. Really poor!!!!

I work for the news paper out west for the same company,

and its true about them letting go 10% of the work force.

I am taking a 40% cut in hours, and may eventually lose my
job as well.

I have heard that Tony has, due to budgetary cuts, been let go by the Journal News. As we all know, Tony is a zealot when it comes to wrestling coverage in Section One, I’ve sent an email to the following people and encourage you to do the same. We need to support Tony and his coverage of wrestling in Section One. We need him back at the table covering our sport.
