    yay

  2. wrestler

uh would results be too much to ask…

P.S. (we want TONY!!! journal news)

  3. Eric Lebowitz

Uh, Wrestler, I wasn’t there, so I tracked down as many results as I could. Quite a clever, witty post though.

  4. Lowsingle

Eric: Is it possible to get in touch with the wrestling beat writer from the Poughkeepsie journal to get full results? Thanks

  5. wrestler

yea and eric arent you the new wrestling writter, so why the heck werent you there?

  6. Eric Lebowitz

Not quite sure what a writter is, but I am the new wrestling WRITER. Anyway, we don’t cover every wrestling tournament, just we don’t cover every basketball game or swim meet. Only two local teams were at Mid-Hudson, which is why I wasn’t there.

    Eric

I am a very positive person.

I always like to see how things evolve before I slam someone to the mat.

Around a month of your reporting has past & I am not too thrilled at all.

You as a “featured sports reporter” should not be responding to your critics as much as you do. It’s sophomoric & not professional.

You have been trying to impress all those early naesayers & are failing.

As a major example, you were no where in sight at the Mid-Hudson Tourney.

This 43 year old event is the early season’s most prestigious wrestling tourney.

There were 16 teams from Long Island, Westchester, Putam & Dutchess County.

    Where were you?

In the past there would be accurate box scores posted after the first day of prelims & 1/4ers & then after the 2nd day’s semis & finals.

You gave 8 lines of print on Sunday & then again 8 lines of print this morning – WHAT A TERRIBLE LACK OF INTEREST & there’s no excuse – someone should have been there or
co-ordinated with the Poughkeepsie Journal’s wrestling writer, so that there would be an informed article this
    morning.

You have only fueled the doubters & maybe lost those of us that saw some possible merrit to your writing.

    Miles

P.S. At the very least you should have been there on the 2nd day.

  8. sectiononefan

I agree with insurancerat…you’re responding to your critics too much, you’re always defending yourself. Your posts should be more about wrestling and less about why you did or did not do something.

  9. wrestler

yea i agree tony was much better than eric at least when you critized tony he answered with respect eric thinks like everyone is out to get him

(tony rules nobody will replace him)

  10. Eric Lebowitz

For those upset with the coverage, I can only assure you I am doing my best. I agree, let’s stick to wrestling from now on on this blog. The last thing I’ll say is that I do think it’s unfair sometimes to be criticized when people are not totally aware of everything that is involved in this situation. But such is life. Let’s move on. I’m heading to Pearl River in a few minutes for the tournament there, and I’ll have a post later. Happy holidays to everyone.

  11. a wrestler

hey eric can you please post some rankings every1 has always awaited these rankings and they are always out by christmas. We have not seen any rankings this year so far and i would like to see some individual rankings.

  12. phil

The first rankings of the year are usually not that accurate,

so don’t worry about making mistakes. Doing a new ranking
every week will allow you fine tune it as the year progresses.

Just get one up as best you can, so you can start to fine tune it heh. Don’t worry about complaints because they will
come regardless of how well you do !

  13. all BS

First off, I loved Tony Ps coverage and his exopierience can not be matched. But all you whiners should get off this kids back. The mid hudson had 3 local teams in it and the JN can not be expected to cover every single event. Be Real.

If you go back into the archives you’ll see that as great as Tony was, this kid Eric is posting way more and initiating communication way more than Tony ever did.

The Section 1 blog posted rankings in November last year and had updated them twice by New Years. This year they have not posted anything. In case you didnt know, Tony is working on that blog. Not that it is his fault alone cause he joined them late, but no one on that blog has complained at all about not having the rankings. This kid is not getting a fair shot.

Insurnce rat is obviously from Ossining. I wonder if he would be upset if Ossining was not one of the three teams at mid hudson.

Leave the kid alone!————-I said; LEAVE THE KID ALONE

  14. NewYork

Wrestler: If you don’t like this blog why to you continue to read and write to it? Go to the SectionOne site and you can read Tony’s posts, although he has not been writing much.

Having said that, this blog is not as good as it was last year and it’s not so much absence of Tony as it is many people that used to write (and read) posts here are boycotting.

I think those that have left feel bad for Tony, and of course we can’t blame them for that. They are also angry at the JN.

  15. THE BOOCH

    Wawawa
All of you wine like lil girls.
With that said E let’s see some rankings so we have something real to post about.

  16. insurancerat

  17. sectiononefan

On Eric’s defense, you have to admit, the bar was set very high for him because we all loved Tony….this isn’t Eric’s fault. The more I think about it, if I was starting a new job and replacing someone who was great, I wouldn’t like it if everyone continually attacked me and compared me to that person. We do need to give him a break.

  18. insurancerat

    Eric

Yes, we got used to Tony Pinciaro & his intense desire to help make our wrestling program the best.

I am not attacking you, I actually was looking forward to meeting you at the Mid-H this past weekend.

If I was starting a new job, as you were & the opportunity to shine was presented to me, I would have made every effort to excell.

Instead, you just said nothing as to why you could not be at the tourney & you deflected to the monday tourney.

I’ll extend an olive branch to you – the largest single seasonal tourney is taking place on Jan 9th & 10th – it’s the Eastern States Classic – there were 53 schools respresented last year & they expect at least that many.

What’s your schedule like for those 2 days?

    Regards for the New Year.

    MILES

P.S. Ossining will be at Hauppauge for a 6 school dual meet tourney this Saturday – I’ll report back to you how it goes et al.

  19. is this guy crazy?

    Insurance rat

    You must be crazy.

Maybe we should get CNN and ESPN to cover the Eastern States becuase Ossining (and your son) are going this year.

Last year there were 3 local teams competing. It is
1 1/2 hours away. Perhaps you dont realize that the Journal News is a LOCAL paper. you really need to get over yourself!

You need to re-read your first post because you certainly did attack Eric.

    ERIC
If I were you, I would tell him where to put his olive branch. He offers it to you like he is someone you need acceptance from. Keep up the hard work. Your efforts are appreciated.

By the way – there are at least 12 LOCAL teams in the Scarsdale tournament right here in Westchester on Jan 10th no need to travel to watch his son.

  20. sectiononefan

personally, I think one of the biggest tournaments we have is the Shoreline Tournament. There are around 38 schools from Section 1.

  21. insurancerat

All you do dudes are right.

I’ll report to Eric & let’s see what happens.

I just love ruffling tail feathers.

    Miles

P.S. See you at Shoreline as well.

  22. North Homicide Sgt.

    Eric,

Why don’t you have the coaches e mail you the results in a format that is instaneously printable in the newspaper. I believe the section one online site already provides this for coaches to report their scores. This is not something new, the format and technology exist and it will allow you to receive the results and publish them.

  23. Eric Lebowitz

Unfortunately that is incorrect. The fonts would still have to changed. The policy here, as far as I know, has always been to have games called in. If you would like to see that changed, I suggest taking it up with an editor.

  24. SUPER BOWL POSTPNED!!!!!

Yep, you read it correct. The 2009 Super Bowl has been postponed so Fox can carry a live feed of Ossinings dual meet that day. teher gonna cover them boarding teh bus and everything. They do plan on rescheduling the Super Bowl and are discussing possible open dates with insurance rat of Ossining.
    Stay tuned for updates!

  25. Eric Lebowitz

I don’t want to encourage too much back and forth trash talk, but that last post was pretty hilarious.

  26. mmm I wonder

This is not a criticism, although I expect it may be taken that way.

I am trying to create a dialogue for improving Section One.

    What will it take?

Anyone want to see real News coverage & an Organization that provides many things for this sport.

    Look at:

    1) Newsday – Long Island’s newspaper – in depth reports on every wrestling event – we know it’s almost impossible for one reporter to do that – how does Newsday do it?
How do they network themselves to each school & how does each & every coach participate?

    2) the Long Island Wrestling Association – they report & post “2” sections as well as all kinds of information
pertaining to this sport from peewees through & including college – how do they do it?

I have heard some of the same questions now for about 15 years about the Section One program.

How do we improve the quality of our wrestlers, how do we improve the officiating & so on?

Is it money &/or is it a full time staff to run the section program?

    I am only asking questions?

Any suggestions out there in MATLAND?

  27. Coach Warren

Last year sec 1 had 5 teams out of the 54 in eatern states this year we have 10 section 1 teams at easterns states. This is more teams than are at many of the westchester tournaments you cover. Miles, nice job by your son and his teamates at midhudsons, loved the socks. This year eastern states 70 teams!!! see you there Joe Warren

  29. THE BOOCH

  30. shoebox

    wow.

  31. TheTurk

    Eric,

For a new kid on the block trying to impress, you need to spend more time reporting and less time talking trash.

Also people in glass houses should not throw stones, “just we don’t cover every basketball…”. I think you needed and “as” in there somewhere.

You are also spending too much time defending your employer. Last year Tony wanted to kick my ass for pointing out the Urinal News’ short comings. Tony defended this paper to the hilt and you see what he got.

It is time you worked on YOUR grammar and dusted off your resume, because if this Sundays paper (1/4/09) is any indication of how well the Urinal News is doing, you better start looking for a new job, cause this paper is in a death spiral.

Spend less time reading the blog and picking on the other posters and spend more time doing your job, which is to report results.

MILES, give him hell my man.

  32. Eric Lebowitz

    The Turk,
My reporting and grammar are both fine. Shortcomings is one word though my main man. I actually haven’t said anything about anything other than wrestling for over a week, but no need to sweat the details. If coming on this blog and knocking me and the paper (anonymously, no less) makes you feel good, then by all means, carry on. And by the way, I’m not trying to impress you. I write stories and blog posts for the reasonable, intelligent (which is the large majority) of wrestling fans. Not for the one or two people who want to come on and spread negativity and ignorance.

  33. Eric L Fan Club II

Wow, I honestly can’t believe all the negativity here towards Eric. Isn’t this a blog to discuss wrestling and the successes of high school athletes and not a place to bash a guy just trying to do his job (that he was thrown into at the last minute nonetheless)? Writers do not just decide on their own what matches or games they want to cover – those decisions are all made by editors. And there is obviously a limited amount of space in the paper and a lot of sports to cover so they try to do their best to spread it out amongst all the sports. So why not just go back to discussing high school wrestling and not the reporter??

  34. question

Wow, after reading, unfortunately, the negative trash talk, one has to wonder, how “old” are you guys? Your child/children must be proud of you and it would be a shame if and when they stumble across this site. So sad. Hopefully your children are more mature! Leave the reporter alone and get a life!

Eric: Just keep doing what you do and ignore the haters (I know it’s easier said than done) Just remember, they aren’t in your shoes and you are where you are for a reason! They are probably upset because they are not where they want to be! Always remember, misery loves company! Don’t join their pity party by replying to them! When you’ve got a good thing going, someone is always going to have something negative to say! Just pray for them!
