Beacon tournament results

January
24

The Beacon tournament finals just came in over the phone. No surprise here as Fox Lane, John Jay, and Brewster finished 1, 2, and 3. They’re the top three teams in the Westchester/Putnam power rankings (though not in that order).

Sam Speno, Steven Rodrigues, Joey Grippi, and Luke Speno won titles for the victorious Foxes.

“It was a very good team effort,” Foxes coach Joe Amuso said. “We not only got the performances from the consistent wrestlers in the finals, but we also got points from the wrestle-backs.”

Below are the finals results. Note that in the team scoring only the top three have scores. Coach Amuso didn’t have anything beyond that. The other teams are listed alphabetically, not in the order they finished.

Team scores and key: 1. Fox Lane (FL) 197.5; 2. John Jay (JJ) 185; 3. Brewster (Bw) 175; Arlington (Arl); Beacon (Be), Half Hollow Hills (HHH), North Salem (NS), Ossining (O), Port Chester (PC), Valley Central (VC), Yorktown (Yk).

Sorry, finals is all we got.

  3. section 1 w/some sense

how about complete team scoring ? tomorrow? because i know Ossining didnt finish behind N. Salem, they had 2 champs to Salem’s 1, Salem has 1 wrestler

  4. wrestler

i wasn’t there but from the scores of the matches the 145, 160, and 171 matches were really good….any comments…

section 1 w/some sense…Right now we only have team scoring for the top three. The other teams are listed in alphabetical order. So North Salem didn’t finish ahead of Ossining.

I added a note about it in the body of the post.

  6. ok

eric, not a suprise on the finish? Valley Central is ranked 27th in the state and took 5th, ossining placed ahead of them also. Biggest news were the injuries (swertsfeger and almadovar both were seriously injursed plus 3 other kids left in an ambulance,)Rose’s No-show, watterson beating cabibbo, and bailey to be named MOW, and 160 was loaded with genovesse beating ramos in a great match by 1 and losing to brundage by 1 in the finals.

Damn. wanted to see Swertfager and Gogatz go at it again too bad Swertfager got hurt. and i saw Grippi wrestle Gogatz in the semis then Barry in the finals. Looks like a state champ to me.

    Hi Jake,

I think you are doing a great job so far, but where is the information on the Croton Tournament? Nothing in the paper, but that Sleeppy Hollow won? Why is this? can you list this tournament on the web, and how do we get it in the news paper. It is really a shame, there was some really good schools there and some great matches.

Great match between Tompkins (Beacon) and Speno. I would say Tompkins would be the favorite @ 140 in the Sectionals. Even over Hauser(PANAS) And Wheeler( Mamaroneck).

  12. sectiononefan

what happened to Eric LaPorta from Yorktown? How did he fare?

  13. Jake Thomases

Fan…We tried to get Croton results last night but coach Sam Occhipinti didn’t have them handy. They were with his assistant. Hopefully they will get faxed to us tonight.

Kinda funny, but Sam Speno was the most impressive Fox lane

    wrestler at the tourney.

Did he face the JJCR wrestler who beat him last weekend ?

  15. PRC E8

No: Parise (Brewster) defeated Yablon for the third straight time this season, before meeting Speno in the finals

  16. junior

    Hi Jake,

Do you know if Tompkins is certified 140 for the Sectionals? last year placed third 130 IN sectionals. He might be a light 145 pounder now

  17. Jake Thomases

junior…Not sure on Tompkins. Beacon is out of our coverage area so I’m not as up on those guys.

  18. ?

wat was the score of parise vs yablon the third time they met?

  19. BREWSTER

parise over yablan Tech fall 16-1
