New poll question on Super 16

Let’s assume Fox Lane, because of its recent tournament success, wins Saturday’s Super 16 tournament. Especially without John Jay there to be the yin to Fox Lane’s yang. I know, I know, some of you are going to dispute that. But let’s assume for a minute.
If it’s the case, who do you think will come in second? Mahopac? Sleepy Hollow? Ossining?
That’s what I ask in my latest poll question. The poll, remember, is on the right of the screen if you scroll down a bit. Vote for what you think. You can add answers as well if you think my choices missed somebody.
Remember to vote soon, because this question obviously has a deadline.
Oh, and if you really think someone’s going to beat Fox Lane, post a comment on this blog post telling me why.

Jake,
why isn’t J.J and Westlake going to super 16?
don’t ask Jake, ask their coaches and AD’s … its not like they werent invited
Fox Lane will have 3 champs…... Ossining 2….. Mahopac 1 maybe 2 …. Sleepy same story …. to catch Fox Lane one of those teams will need at least 1 more champ because teams aren’t as deep as they used to be. To have 8+ guys place at Super 16 wont be so easy, so # of champs might go further with fox lane, Sleepy, Ossining, Mahopac, all having a handful or less guys place its going to come down to who can step up for what teams
Ossining: doesn’t have a 3rd guy who can win, Cannon, Gonzalez, Panken (x2), these guys can place but i dont see them winning it
Mahopac: Flamio will win, 215 possible upset, slight chance
Sleepy: I dont think they get a champ honestly, but maybe 2 finalists
Fox Lane will get its 3 champs, plus little Speno and one of the Grippi’s at least will place
Ossining has the best chance to upset Fox Lane if Brundage and Neivart win in big fashion because fox lane’s 3 will, and IFFFFFFFFF the whole supporting cast steps up, Cannon and two others take (3-4) possibly De La Cruz and a Panken, and then Gonsalez, Chavez, other Panken, will all have to wrestle well
also ossining has Almodover if hes healthy
You are forgetting Fay and Rudea of Fox Lane. Fay has a good chance of making finals, and Rudea is hot and cold, but could surprise.
cya
No upset of FL as far as I can see.
cya
Carmel could have 3 or 4 champs plus a few other placers. rose, davidson, lorenz, and othmer? where has he been he was 4th in section last year. that should be enough to take 2nd
Asking the question is good but, providing the answer and then justifying it is better journalism.
Jake:
How about an individual ranking for Section 1 wrestlers?
This has been done in year’s past. If you need help, contact some coaches and maybe do a coaches poll….Small school and large school are done separately….
CYA,
You are correct about Fay & Rueda in Super 16. If Flamio goes 125 to get a match with Rose, Fay could very well win 119. Rueda has been fairly consistent in Shoreline & Beacon , he should be in top 5 again.
Ragman
Fox Lane Parent,
caring about wrestling is good, NOT making backhanded comments about a reporter who took over wrestling mid-season, has not been covering wrestling over the years, and is putting forth a good effort so far to satisfy the wrestling community, is better parenting..
it’s just me but if i was Jake, i wouldnt be putting out rankings, and making predictions, with the short base of knowledge he has picked up in just a few weeks ( that would be bad journalism) He realizes there are fans who saw these kids last year and how some match-ups went, and have a better idea how things could go. Before he took over the wrestling gig he probably didnt know who took 2nd in the sections last year. Why would he. I say 2nd because he may have seen a headline from last year.
As for listing rankings (High C) kind of the same boat. I wouldn’t put up rankings if i didn’t know the guy well enough. And i think he could talk to Tony and post his rankings but thats dicey ground, people would complain that he isnt doing his own, the paper might not want it done, If this were after divisionals and there were no predictions/rankings before sectionals, thats one thing, but i think we should let him get his feet wet a little longer, i dont think his toes are wrinkly yet
Good points made by Section 1 w/ss.
I think Carmel is being overlooked. I see at a minimum 2 champs for them with 4 being a distinct possibility. They should take 2nd. After that, I’ll say:
3) Mahopac
4) Ossining
5) Somers
yeah i totally overlooked Carmel, i’ll admit that, i see them and Ossining competing for 2nd, 215 could be a very important weight class for the tournament, compared to other weights its pretty weighed open. With the Sleepy vs Ossining match we didnt get to see a good matchup at 152, without Westlake there i look to see who challenges Graham (if he makes the bus, thats the rumor for last weekend ??)
If Flamio goes 125 that will shake things up a bit for Mahopac and Carmel, and give a great matchup, what would be awesome would be Flamio, Rose, and Grippi all in one class, but that wont happen.
96- Planamento
103- Realbuto
112-S-Rod
119Flamio (Srednicki if justice moves up, i just dont want Fay(FL) to win or its over)
125 Rose(Flamio if up)
130 -Grippi
135-Davidson
140-Hauser/Lorenz/Longo (considering know one knows who is going to be there)
145-Speno
152-Graham
160 – Brundage
171-Neivart (pin points)
189- is portchester going? i dont think Bauer-Moshi wins it
215- could be Othmer, like i said its a wide open weight class from what i’ve seen from this years heavyweights
285 i like the Y’town kid, was beating Garcia at Shoreline before being pinned
—Fox Lane top 4 in 96,103,112,119, 130,145 (6) with 3 champs—Ossining top 4 in 130? 145? 152, 160,171, 189? 215? (def 3, as many as 7) with 2 champs—Carmel top 4 in 96,119,125, 215 (at least 4) with at least 1 prob 2 champs or more—Mahopac top 4 in 112/119/125 (2 of 3 Srednicki and Flamio) & 215 prob only Flamio wins, expect a few kids to place besides him though at least the two ranked kids Srednicki and Scopino by this point Imbimbo has this kids going
thats your order right there Fox Lane, Ossining, Carmel, Mahopac/Sleepy, Somers
if flamio went 25 would rose try to get in the rockland county championships lol
section with some sense, grippi isnt certified at 125 hes a 30 pounder, but i would like to see the combination of those 3 wrestle. rember rose bumped up last year to aviod flamio and got pinned in a minute by arcara. I dont think grippi has ever wrestled those 2 but it wouldnt be close grippi looks awsome and has 1 kid on his mind. Cody Rugirello
He was talking about a younger Grippi who has been wrestling 125.

Fox Lane Parent
I thought you were gone forever? Why are you back and why do you have to start the crap again. Jake is doing a really good job. He posts results here everyday. Over on your blog they have not posted a single result since the dual championship on Dec 16th. Go away again please.
abs,
rose went 119 last year at super 16 TO WRESTLE ARCARA, not to avoid justice
nah i meant older grippi, i guess Peter ? i said it wouldnt happen because he is cert at 130, i saw the smaller one almost get pinned by Concepcion of Sleepy, he cant hang with Rose or Flamio.
Also wouldnt mind seeing Osleeb wrestle Div 1 at sectionals, that would be something else, lot of guys got some talent in the 112-130 range Flamio, S-Rod, Rose, Stauber, Lustig, Grippi, Swertfager(hopefully not too injured), Waterson, Oliveto, hell even Srednicki, Gogatz, Barry, the Cabbibo’s i would say these 4 weights are as deep as any 4 weights in a row, in Section 1 that is, used to have all the talent between 140-160 not so much the case anymore 160 is who can catch Brundage too relaxed, 171 Neivart is on a mission, 145 Speno is a beast, 152 Will Carter is the stud but Div II so Div 1 not as impressive and the heavyweights are down big time right now. even the smaller guys have more depth with Realbuto, Artrip, Caputo, and 96 with Planamento, Speno, and Kramer
How about changing the title to the Westchester/putnam county tournament!!make it a annual event like the Rockland counties. send a invite to every school!! because some teams change year to year or every two years are they really super 16 qualfier?
What is the situation with wild cards for states? Is it two per division or two for all of section 1?
I think Ossining has a great chance they will Have Brundage-160, Almodovar-140, Cannon-145, DeLacruz-152, Panken-189, Dubray-215, Gonzales-130 & Neivert-171 all place. Sleepy will have Jimenez-96, Concepsion-125, Martinez-135,Sharrock-145,Delmonaco-152,Tompkins-171, bauer-Moshi-189, Lopez-215.
Carmel I think will be the 2nd place team the rest is a fight.
I am supped up for this weekend. Its my first time back in ten years.
1 fox lane
2 the O
3 caramel
4 mahopac
Innocent, There is not a set number for wild cards for each section. Its the 4 best kids in the state who did not win a section title. Its based on won loss record this year, career sectional placements(top 4 only), state placements, and what section your in. The better sections get 5 bonus pts, the elite sections get 10 and section 1 gets 0. bonus pts are based on what your section has done the last 5 yrs at states. 2 years ago we had 7-9 kids get wild cards in d1 and 2 last year i think we got 4. There are other technicalities you have to take top 3 in sectionals, you cant jump the the 2nd place guy if you lost to him. You could have 3 kids in 1 weight from 1 section get in, as was the case last year @112 from section 11. If your rooting for wild cards for section 1 your hoping for upsets to our top guys at sections, and praying that the top guys in other sections win sectionals. Flamio, grippi, brundage are sure shots for wild cards should they not win. I dont see any of them losing however. Mike rose seems to have the best chance for some one who hasnt won a section title, 2 2nds and what ever he does this year. Hope this helps Its a 2 or 3 day process to figure out all the data. Coach Warren
Ah i forgot Stauber 2nd and 4th in sectionals, and davidson 3rd 2x. None of the kids are thinkin about wild cards im sure, section titles are all they have on their mind
Trust me! There is no sure thing when it comes to wild cards. I had to learn that the hard way last year with Ahern. If its your dream or the dream of your kid is to go to states you got to think section champ and nothing else.
ONE
section 1 w/some sense…You picked an appropriate screenname. You make a lot of sense, about Section 1 wrestling and about journalism. It would be very difficult for me to start making predictions when I’ve only been on the beat a few weeks. Especially about an event as big as Super 16. It would probably piss off more people than it satisfied. That’s why I’m leaving predictions to people like you and the other fans on here who are clearly on the pulse. I’m catching up quickly, but I’m not at the prediction stage yet.
wRESTLING fANS…John Jay and Westlake earned automatic invites to the Super 16 after finishing in the top 10 at last year’s event. They declined.
HIghC…Until this year there was a committee of coaches that ranked individual wrestlers every week. Those rankings appeared in the newspaper. Unfortunately they stopped doing that this year. That’s why you haven’t seen them.
Speaking of Super 16…. how bout people give us some predictions?
thanks Jake
I think it is VERY unlikely that those who have not won the section would get a wild card. Particularly true for weights above 103 where the pool for possible wild cards increase state wide. Good example was M Rose last year. Stauber seems to be in the same situation, not likely to get a wild card as a 2x all section wrestler from section I. Nevertheless, it would be great for him and section I…..we can hope…
i think sleepy will place top 4
How about new rochelle and Edgemont? were they invited?
Jake can you get a complete list, i feel like i saw it in an article but couldn’t find it, seeding isnt like it used to be so those arent as important to me, but im wondering what the final list of teams is, and what the format is, i know its only one day, are they doing full consulations? just semi-finals losers wrestling for third ? ? i’m from the days of fri night ALL DAY SATURDAY super 16, mat light finals, the good ol’ days
Section 1 w/some sense,
Sorry about your issue w. Fox Lane at Super 16, but Srednicki is going 112 not 119 if Flamio goes up to 125. That leaves Fay with a real good shot at 119. You got anybody else ?
Ragman
my issue with Fox Lane?? im not here to argue but it happens, and always out of the confusion of others. There is no issue with Fox Lane, i clearly stated they will have a guaranteed 3 champs, im not saying there is no way they will have 4. That said 119 is going to have plenty of talent in it, without Flamio. I put Srednicki at 119 because If i were Imbimbo I wouldnt put the kid up against S-Rod (guess thats just part of my issue with Fox Lane) Although if he puts Flamio at 125 to wrestle Rose, why not put Srednicki at 112 to see what he can do with S-Rod.
my issue is not with Fox Lane, although there was a parent I wanted to rip into for what they posted, i think i was nice about how i replied to that.
I still think Fox Lane is the favorite, but the post is about who can come in 2ND PLACE…..
so like i said most of the time its just confusion, if anyone should think i have an issue with them its Carmel, Sleepy, or Somers ( i don’t though)
oh i see what it is, i said ” i dont wan’t Fay to win or its over” by that i meant if him and S-Rod go back to back at 112&119, than that pretty much raps up any excitement coming down the stretch, no matter how well Ossining, Sleepy, Mahopac, or Somers does, odds are they will all hurt each other and let Fox Lane get that much further ahead.
Section 1 w/some sense ,
That was nicely said and I cant disagree with your logic.
Ragman
no srod, no big speno and not alot of depth past top 3. team title just got alot tighter.
wait wait wait, S-Rod, and Speno aren’t even wrestling?? if thats true Fox Lane will not win, you take away two champs? thats huge, im sure they have some good wrestlers to fill for them, but will they place ? and Srednicki maybe the fav now at 112? ?

Is Srednicki going 112 for the postseason or is Pagliuca?
This is the first time I have seen him at 112. Will he make the 50% rule with weigh ins?
