henry vs justis… best match of the tournament. Henry deserves a wild card a states hands down. the match couldve gone either way.
I will second that motion, two great wrestlers, it was a shame someone had to lose.
anyone know if the finals will be on youtube??
third the justis-henry match, he should deff, get wild card, there is a person on youtube under the name dckundr who usually posts the matches on youtube
Realbuto won by tech fall, not pin.
amazing match, pretty good finals, congrats to Fox Lane, and people can be made at me for saying it but i’ve made this mistake and i payed the consequences…. Didio should have been disqualified, his points should have been taken away and you can move a couple teams ahead of N.Rockland in the team standings. Lost his cool got in the faces of the refs, and Port Chester coaches and tossed his head gear, thats a DQ far as I know.
why does it say ramos decisioned scott 5-5? what actually happened?
mad at me not made at me, just to avoid grammar corrections
Congrats to Henry Stauber. Taking the outstanding Justice Flamio deep into OT. Match could have gone either way. If Henry had won section 1 would have benifited by sending two excellent 119 pounders to states(Justice would no doubt have gotten a wild card)
that chin piece…My bad. It was 5-4.
Brundage not MOW, what a railroad job that is!
Brundage was the best wrestler in the Gym, and probably the best athlete competing. Check your Section program history…MOW doesn’t always go to the best wrestler in the finals. I wish we included a ‘Champion of Champions’ award, voted on by the Gold medalists. People like Mazzurco and Brundage would not be overlooked in that case.
Cauli…Do you know what the criteria is for MOW? I’m with MITS, Brundage was the most dominant guy on the mat today. Pinned his way through, including the last guy in 17 seconds. Pretty compelling case.
can’t take away from what Joey Hauser did this year. Undefeated so far, will be undefeated against section 1 opponents, dealing with adversity. Not to take away from any other champs but I think its easy to agree his style includes a little more heart and hustle than some of the other names that could be mentioned for MOW. He is a good athlete but no where near the athlete of a Brundage, and he is a clean wrestler but not as flawless as Realbuto. Even without his situation you would have to like his gutty style for MOW anyway..
Very impressed with Patrice Castor and Josue Cardenas only two section champs that weren’t divisional champs (this year) Cardenas earned his win. Didio’s forfeit came when Cardenas took the lead by 1pt I believe 8-7. They have it listed as a DQ? normally when you get DQ’d its for the tournaments, still not sure what think about this one. I’m sure little Realbuto would have rather been DQ’d for just one round. I think this needs some looking into
jake i think mow can mean more than pinning ur way thru a weight class. every weight class is different some are deeper and some can be walked thru so pinning your way thru doesnt always mean u r the best.
section 1 wit some some sense ur a fucking tart cuz didio got dQ’d cuz he had 5 tecnical calls.. and the fleeing the mat call was bullshit cuz he was trying to hit a standing switch nd the score was 6-5 cardares didnt earn that at all didio screwed up nd gave him 5 of his 6 points he didnt earn shit.. didio shud have destrotyed him but he wrestled bad… tuff loss cant do nething about it now the ref sucked and he threw his headgear after the match u idiot…. gud shit patrice he actually earned his title
section 1 w/some sense i think you said it best. Hauser went undefeated this year and as the blogs said it could have gone any one of 3 ways at 140. congratulations to him on what he accomplished this year.
bringtonypback
i think your maturity and wisdom could go a long way towards bringing tony back. Maybe you could write with him. The kid Cardenas wrestled hard and worked Didio into making errors. When else have you seen Didio make mistakes like that. I would say who would condone Didio’s behavior, getting in the face of the Port Chester coaches, but than again look at the trash you decided to post on here. Could have easily made your point conducting yourself as an adult. I normally wouldnt even waste my time responding to something like that but you’re taking away from what the kid did. Was Didio the best wrestler at 189, yeah i still think so. Was Didio aware that he had 5 technical fouls at the time, i doubt it but maybe, the call went against him he threw his headgear in the corner and walked out of the circle, leaving the circle is a DQ i believe too. My beef isnt with the DQ of that match, but for what took place afterwards, Cardenas would have been up 1 with 7 seconds left had the match continued i think he could have held on for the win. What Didio did afterwards is what i posted about.
Cardenas earned his Section championship because he wrestled Didio tougher than anyone i’ve seen and then beat the kid who beat him in Divisionals. And i don’t think any amount of bitterness is going to change the way that kid is feeling tonight, good for Josue Cardenas
Bring Tony Back,
You are an ignorant fool that has not right to use language of that nature on this site.Attached below are the rules govenering useage of this site. Given your clear lack of writing skill, I assume you never learned how to read and are therefore unable to understand. Why dont you crawl back under your rock and leave us alone…............
” You do not: Use the site to post or transmit any unlawful, threatening, abusive, libelous, defamatory, obscene, vulgar, pornographic, profane or indecent information of any kind…..”
I hope you are banned from using this site in the future.
when cardenas and didio wrestled in their dual they had a one point match, so the semi’s could have went either way… grow up.
125 weight class was great no front runner. most of the section finals were kind of boring top seeds winning. 119 major exception i know. but rose watterson final back n forth, rose cabibbo semi awsome, cabibbo slane 3/4 good match 2. 119, 125, 135, 152, 189 were the only finals that were in doubt after the first 30 seconds… if it made it that far brundage 17 sec wow! also reno devita from somers @135 what a tournament that kid had. he was a nobody on thursday, hes a somebody 48 hrs later.
great points by ?
thanks guys for knowing whats up (ragman, hmmm) good weekend, good night
good luck to a section 1 team that could do pretty well at states, there is talk of the section being down and wrestling in section 1 not being competitive (some by me) but the top guys are pretty solid
Kramer, Realbuto, Rodrigues, Flamio, Rose, Grippi, Davidson, Hauser, Speno, Ramos,Brundage, Neivart, Cardenas, Castor, Garcia
lot of the guys placed at Eastern States, got to think those guys have potential to place at States.
Im looking for Realbuto, Rodrigues, Flamio, Grippi, and Brundage to do real well at states, and Kramer, Ramos,Rose, Neivart, should do pretty well also.. Garcia seems poised to do better than last year (Friday was finding a way to win, Saturday was taking the championship on his terms, high approval)
Rose has had great competition all year, Neivert should carry momentum and confidence from Eastern States knowing where to improve. Just wish I could make it up there for States but i will be pulling for these kids
Just for the record I’m cross-posting this explanation of the DQ from my post on the Section I website:
Here’s the story on the DQ during the 189 semi:
Didio hit a great lat drop for 4 in the 1st. Near the edge of the mat later in that period clasped with a reverse body lock (1st penalty point). 4-1
Cardenas earns neutral from bottom in the second about 1:30 in. 4-2
Didio gets neutral about 0:20 into the 3rd: 5-2
Didio warned then banged for stalling: 5-3 (2nd penalty point)
Didio banged for second stall (awarded 1 but it should have been 2 for 3rd penalty point). Scoreboard says 5-4, but it is really 5-5.
Cardenas shot countered with cradle attempt by Didio that turns into standing switch. Cardenas behind Didio on feet trying to lift at waist to earn winning takedown. The scramble ends up out of bounds and ‘fleeing the mat’ point is awarded to Cardenas: 4th penalty point=Disqualification
Most in crowd forgot about 1st period clasp (me included) and presumed the last seven seconds would be wrestled with Cardenas ahead 6-5 (presuming 2 point award for 3rd penalty point).
As it turned out the card was checked, the fourth penalty point had been awarded and the match ended with 7 seconds to go on a DQ by penalty points.
I’m biased, but I just watched the tape and felt all penalty points were justified.
Extra thoughts:
MOW is what the coaches decide it is. It changes year-to-year. Sometimes it is clearly the best wrestler in the tournament (Farrison, Powell) and sometimes it is the best story (Carrozza, Parker, Freeman, Rothrock).
If I go back to my era nobody would argue that Kevin Young wasn’t the best wrestler in ‘73 or Richie Numa in ‘74, but Young won it in ‘72 as a junior and Joey Arcara had a great tourney and won it in ‘73 when Kevin Young went on to the State Finals that year.
I told several people before it was announced that Hauser was the probable MOW and would receive my vote (if I had one). I’m not looking to stir controversy here. Strength of weight class is always a factor when deciding, but the reality is this argument will crop up every year until we add a second award and let the champions decide: who is the best wrestler?
Why not an MOW and a Champion of Champions?
aka MITS
bringtonyback…I think someones blogging rights need to be pulled.
Cauli as always is informative and honest. Great historical takes on MOW and you are correct on all counts(great historical outlook).Mazzurco never MOW, what are these coachs thinking.
That said, Brundage should be the MOW.
All too often the coach’s turn this thing into a popularity contest amongst themselves or worse yet try to make it a human interest/social commentary issue.
The best wrestlers many times have the easiest path to the crown because they are the best. Everyone runs away from them. Also, being undefeated means nothing if you haven’t really wrestled great competition all year. Funny how Realbutto, Flamio, Grippi, Brundage….are all not undefeated this year. These are the best of the best in section one and not an undefeated wrestler in the group. So much for the MOW needing to be undefeated. LOL.
In closing, there were no awards prior to the finals. I think most in attendence are thankful but does anyone know if people were voted into the Hall of Fame this year? If so who were they?
Section 1 with Nonsense…turn in all your Maroon and White gear.
I understand the coaches decided to move the Hall of Fame and other momentous awards to the All-Section Dinner. It has been that way for at least a year. I think it was a good decision. The action of the championships is what the spectators come to see. Let the rest of us wrestling junkies hang out and break bread while acknowledging past and current greatness. If you’re bored, at least you get free coffee refills.
Cauli, thanx again.
Just to finish a question raised by Section 1 w/some sense:
“Didio’s forfeit came when Cardenas took the lead by 1pt I believe 8-7. They have it listed as a DQ? normally when you get DQ’d its for the tournaments, still not sure what think about this one. I’m sure little Realbuto would have rather been DQ’d for just one round. I think this needs some looking into”
You can be disqualified from a match by accumulating too many penalty points (clasps, stalls, full nelsons, et. al.). This does not preclude you from competing in the tournament. Indeed Didio, to his credit, wrestled back with a vengeance and took 3rd place.
If you punched someone during a match, you would be called for a ‘Flagrant Misconduct’. The ref always is the sole arbiter of what constitutes flagrant misconduct. In this case you would be eliminated from competition and all team points earned to that point would be eliminated. It also draws one team point from either a dual or tourney situation.
Another disqualification (read ineligibility) would be bad event budgeting. If the number of matches/tourneys a wrestler has competed in prior to the post-season tournament exceeds his budget, he cannot compete.
Any act of ‘Flagrant Misconduct’ requires that you sit out the next competitive event. Not too many years ago a Section 6 kid who was ranked in the State got upset in his ‘Division’ finals. He flipped out, was hit with a ‘flagrant misconduct’ and could not compete in his sectional tournament because it was the next available date.
I hope that clears that up for you.
kramer did it! im really happy for that kid he worked so hard all season to get it,great job all wrestlers and champs hope to see you in albany.
yeah i figured shouting in the faces of coaches and throwing your headgear was flagrant misconduct, They called it on little Realbuto
ManinTheStands please explain why i should turn in my gear? Do you think Brundage is that uspet that he didn’t get MOW? Did i say he didnt deserve it? He has his 3rd Sectional Title and he is going for a State Title, you think he would trade that to be in Hauser’s shoes just for a trophy?? No offense to Hauser but who do you think will do better up at states? I’m sure ManMan would love to add the trophy to his collection, but I dont think it was his primary goal this season.
So ManInTheStands since you want to call me out personally you can email me at Tomd1210@gmail.com so you can air out your problem in person otherwise shut your mouth and keep to yourself
section 1 w/some sense….you’ve always been very professional and informative with your posts. Man In The Stands is a trouble maker…take it from me, you should see the nonsense he posts on the football blogs. All he ever does is defend Ossining and make fun of everyone else…take it where it comes from, you’re the class act here, we all know he’s a jerk.
I think they should do 3 awards.
MOW=MOST OUTSTANDING WRESTLER- just what it is (Realbuto, Flamio, Brundage) thats in weight order so i don’t need to hear from the haters. i like the idea of the champs voting for it, but you have to wonder with high school kids if you are going to get a 15 man tie lol
MVW-MOST VALUABLE WRESTLER- to member of team champs, decided by that teams coaching staff
and then a 3rd award, most impressive something to that effect, to reward a big upset, or a great story of adversity, with everything else they do why not just add a couple more awards, heck some tournaments do 1 per grade why can’t sectionals do 3 ?
Also when are we going back to a unified section championship? the best wrestlers are just that. The Division 1 districts don’t breed super-humans. Keep the Large/Small school stuff for dual meet leagues and what not because thats where the enrollment changes things. Maybe do some small school tournaments so they can win some team titles, even give a team title at sectionals for large and small schools but have them compete in the same tournament. I wouldnt put a 5 time Small school sectional champ over even a 3 time Large school champ, maybe even two time. Is someone ready to see Penn Gottfried is a better wrestler than Steven Rodrigues ?
a section champ shud be the best wrestler in the section cardares wasnt the best kid in the section at that weight he got lucky.. didio shud get a wild card but he likely wont…if didio goes to any of the state practices he will show cardares what shud have happened
supposedly Didio beat him by 1 pt the last time they wrestled ?? and then Cardenas was beating him by 1pt. The technical pts were for stalling, clasping, and fleeing the mat, what points did he give away?? Do we have to go into why someone would stall? or that a clasp is an illegal way to hold a guy down?? or that fleeing the mat is to avoid giving up points?
where is the bleeding heart for Thakur?? he was supposed to be the best at 135? he beat Davidson earlier in the season as did Didio over Cardenas, so the stories are pretty similar although Davidson won in different fashion. Davidson won by more points than Cardenas, but the kid can obviously give him a match if it was that close when they wrestled at the dual meet. At least you didnt use the “wrestling a bad match” excuse again. 2nd day of sectionals is not the time to wrestle a bad match
no point to even argue it doesnt matter why dont u suck cardareses dick im just saying wat shud have happened
I don’t even really understand what you wrote. But it’s SHOULD ok? SHOULD, it’s a word you SHOULD learn it. If Didio goes to practices probably will to work out with Garcia, they probably wrestle together all year, if he wrestles Cardenas or Cardareses whoever that is, he will probably do pretty well. No one calls stalls or fleeing the mat at practices.
oh but please do explain Didio’s basis for getting a wild card?? I’m interested in hearing your opinions on why he SHOULD get a wild card. And if you again decide to say there is no point to explain you are just saying that you don’t have a point ….
4th word two g’s genius. Or did you not want to type the full word? My e-mail is above however i’m not getting into it with a minor, you’re obviously like 13 or something.
Jake I think they should make it a little more difficult to post on here, like they do on the sectionone site
Section1withsomesense: Consider your chain pulled! Good luck to ManMan and Clay next week.
Josh I think bringtonyback needs to go. The posts are offensive.
Sectiononefan: No need for you to advise Section1withsomesense. He is from O’Town and knows a joke when he sees it.
You on the other hand need to stop taking yourself too seriously. You have an opinion like everyone else, and you know what they say about opinions.
By the way did any of your teammates win Championships?
There’s supposed to be a filter for curse words but based on bringtonypback’s last comment it seems to be on the fritz. I’m going to delete it.
bringtonypback…I’m reluctant to censor anyone but you have to keep it clean (and raise the maturity level a tad) if you want to keep posting.
luckily most of us have our own filter, called common sense…...
now anyone interested in seeing the Sectional Championship, State Championship and Divisional Championship become one division again ??? Just the whole Penn Gottfried thing the fact that he could be the first 5 time section champ… what that means for the history of wrestling and guys like Mazzurco, Tim James, Griff Powell, PJ Bory that guys are going to start getting “Small School” accomplishments. Sleepy Hollow has teetered back and forth between large and small schools and they have a rich history of wrestling success both individual and team …...
Bringtonypback…
your a faggit get off this blog you cant wrestle for shit u bitch
what is going on now ??? is that someone attacking bringtonyback ??? or is that him back with a different name speaking for himself ??
You all need to grow up period
Well I have read through the box score and all the stories in The Jounrnal News and have now also read through all the great info on line.
Am I missing something or did John JayCR not have any Section One Champions?
Say it ain’t so! Oh the Humanity!! OH MY!!!
“February 22nd, 2009 at 12:18 pm
a section champ shud be the best wrestler in the section cardares wasnt the best kid in the section at that weight he got lucky.. didio shud get a wild card but he likely wont…if didio goes to any of the state practices he will show cardares what shud have happened”
if a section champ should be the best wrester then why do they even have a tournament, in your case just crown every #1 seed the title and call it a day.when i watched the justis-henry match, i could tell that henry really wanted the win, he worked for it, he wanted it, he was determined to win, even though justis might be a better wrestler, if henry really wanted it and overworked himself to make sure he beat justis and won the title, if that was the case, there’s no way anybody could say he didnt deserve it.
Didio has nobody to blame but HIMSELF! He forgot that a wrestling match is 6 minutes long. Cardenas did a great job by putting pressure on a tired wrestler. The fact that he was in better shape won out in the end. North Rockland seems to be cursed when they wrestle Port Chester 189lbers.
As far as MOW is concerned, I think ALL wrestlers are just
happy to have made it to the top of the podium, and have
thoughts of states dancing in their heads, instead of worrying about the result of a poll to try and single out
only one of them..when all are deserving.
cya
Hahaha lol I was right no champ! And that match at 119 should was never that close that first take down was bullshit never had control than he got dominated for three and a half minutes
JJCRHATER-
you r an idiot. Clearly the match was close because it went into 4OT. If Flamio was that dominant, then he would have pinned Stauber. He did not and almost lost the match. So much for a close match…
Stauber gets a wild card, good for him.
However, it is bad for the rest of us. Now we have to be subjected to all the obnoxious JJCR crew in Albany this weekend.
I am a huge Fox Lane fan, and thus despise JJCR, but I have no desire to either discredit their talent and desire, or to
sling mud their way.
I believe that doing it on the mat, or any other sporting venue is the way to go about showing what you have, not on some blog.
They beat us at our house, but we once again took first overall in the Section, so I’m a happy camper
Great wrestling this year JJ, we will see you again next year
cya
and from what i hear JJ will be pretty strong next year at say maybe 112 ? depending on what a certain 103lb. wrestler grows
FL will have no problem matching JJCR at 112 next year imho
cya
even if a certain section champ moves into town? im surprised Ryan Osleeb hasn’t just up and moved what one town to get into the Katonah-Cross River district or whatever it is, he works out there, why not just go there….
Osleeb is a 119 guy this year
Are you talking about someone else ?
cya
someone else
You are not hinting that Realbuto would transfer to JJCR are you ?
His family has been entrenched at Somers for a while now.
If not him, then who else ?
Lol, tell me !
cya
