From what I was told, Garcia was injured (possibly his ribs) during his first and only match. He then did not take the mat for the second match so it may go down as a medical forfeit.

Garcia was pinned in a tournament a few weeks ago by a wrestler outside of Section I.

yeah the Laporta / Garcia situation is interesting … doesn’t say inj. def. or inj. forfeit ….
although they don’t always list that….I don’t remember seeing any others on the brackets, when they do list injury forfeits though, and something is listed as just a forfeit sometimes it means the wrestler was disqualified the round before, anyone see if Garcia blew up after his match ?? i have actually never seen him lose, so im not saying that he would, just wondering if he did …

a posted a comment on the other topic before by accident, Sam did a great job but he has 55% of the vote !!!! i mean this is insane, considering most polls come down to a couple % pts, he has a 40% lead on Ramos. Speno and Ramos are good wrestlers, i dont think they had big unexpected wins, same with Tompkins, one of the better section 1 wrestlers and had a better draw than Luke but i hear he wrestled a little better too, like i said in the other post i’m not taking away from these kids, most of section 1 really stepped it up. But i don’t think a lot of people expected Grippi to beat Codey and he did, in awesome fashion. I’m disappointed he didnt get more votes, but i’m glad i added him…

I agree with your observations. The most obvious example was Osleebs match with Tyler Marlow (All state/all american). Osleeb took him down within the first 10 seconds and than immediatly cut him,rather than trying to turn him or at least riding to take time off the clock. Marlow wrestled a much smarter match conservative match. Marlow kept him on the edge,while Osleeb was in 3 more times they always went out. At the end of the match it seemed he lost more for tacktics of,rather than wrestling. At state your need to wrestle well AND SMART.

i dont think i know what you are saying, and i dont think you knew what i was saying, you are saying Genta was 10 times worse than the kid? so backpoints killed them ? to many wrestlers in section 1 can’t score from top, granted thats the hardest place to score but thats where other sections get an advantage on us. Also we have gotten a lot better at not being taken down, but at the cost of being quick on takedowns, the rest of the state seemed so much more complete with their neutral attacks, less wasted energy, more deliberate shots, just an observation, just my opinion, take it as you will

very upset with the finals, but he was MVW for FL that
weekend.

Ramos was one of the pre-determined choices for over-achievers by Jake. And who has background information available to them on every wrestler ?? You made some points but the way you went about it will make everyone discredit what you said. The way you went about it makes me want to believe even more that Udit got lucky in his matches more than anything esle… with the penalty points getting to OT and all…..

how about this for exceeding expectations, Peter Grippi ? is that the 112 one? its confusing well the 112,119,125 one because they moved him all over this year… the one who got to the 112 final over Srednicki,Olivetto, and a few other wrestlers ranked above him, don’t think Fox Lane was carrying off his success. I was part of a very successful high school program and when the guys who werent the top flight (for them Sam, S.Rod, Joey, Luke) its a huge lift, great job by the section 1 team I agree with Coach Rogers on that, but i still see something being are downfall.

As he said for Genta – damn backpoints. How many section 1 wrestlers were scoring near fall points ??? so many wrestlers in the section are ok with just taking a guy down and letting him up, well when you get to the state level like i said a couple months back, the best wrestlers in the state can’t be let up, a takedown has to be worth more than 2 pts. Especially if you are down, you cant just take a guy down and hang on, or take him down and let him up, these kids are too good on their feet.

Clay Nievert looked real good for never being on a state team he rose to the ocassion and he definatly exceded expectations. Not his own of course but based on his past he really came on this year and especially at states.

But the winner has to be Justis. He actually beat Keith. Keith had a clear clasp just prior to Flamio’s reversal which gives him the 5-4 win. With two refs it is hard to believe they missed the call. iT was crystal clear. Few would have been able to predict that after Eastern States. It just goes to show that Flamio is one of the best competitors section 1 has ever seen. Last year he defied the critics and again this year he raise the his level in the big matches.

1.Exceeding expectation, Ryan Tompkins. He placed high and beat his only losses in section 1 (Speno) on the way.

2.If Ramos chose neutral vs the section 5 kid in the semis we may have had another finalist and possible champ.

3.Grippi’s gator roll to win against Ruggirello, big upset.

4.Udit got the break where he needed and capitalized versus Lashoway, tough opponent.

5.Murayama wrestled tough and gave Heyman a match in the finals, damn back points.

Those are my top 5 for exceeding expectations. In fact, the whole section 1 large school team exceeded expectations by placing 3rd, great job guys.

speno did a great job,although he got a amazing draw, kramer prob got the worst draw of all had to wrestle max soria who took 3ed (a animal). i heard the kid who speno wrestled in the quarters kramer pined earlier in the year.
