Finally. it’s time to WRESTLE

March
8

The wait is over. I’m here in snowy Rochester watching the wrestlers line up for the procession, which will start at 10 a.m.

After three looooooonng weeks, we are finally going to see wrestling. Let’s hope this is the last time we have a three-week wait before states.

Blue Cross Arena is about half full, but [...]

This wait is driving me crazy!

March
5

I don’t know about anyone else, but this three-week wait until the State Championships is ridiculous!

I’m only a fan and I’m climbing the walls, waiting for this. I could just imagine what the wrestlers are coaches are going through. They all must be suffering from ‘wrestling-room’ fever.

All the best to the Section 1 wrestlers and [...]

Harrison coach Vinny Nicita is bashful so he asked me to post this for him regarding the All-Section dinner:

Wild cards will be announced this week

February
24

I asked Section 1 wrestling chairman Eric Romanino at sectionals when the wild cards would be announced. He told me it would be this week, and, if I remember correctly, he said it would be Friday, Feb. 29.

In regards to wild cards, I would think Yortown’s Mike Ahearn and Clarkstown North’s Steven Ramos have a [...]

Do us all a favor please…

February
20

Why do many of you continue to beat this John Jay subject to death? I will say it again, it’s over and done with and I will continue to delete everything regarding the DiBetta situation.

Stop dwelling and rehashing the negative and focus on the positve – the state championships.

And to those of you who have [...]

It is time to move on

February
18

I will make this clear, right here, right now, what happened Sunday with Brian DiBetta is over. Coach Swertfager and the John Jay staff will take care of it. So, from this point on, any more references to what DiBetta did will be removed.

We just concluded a great two days of wrestling with some outstanding [...]

How about this…

February
18

Being that there are numerous anonymous posters who have an opinion on everything from Mr. Grippi to Brian DiBetta to the officials to John Degl/ISW, what do you say you identify yourself?

That would be the right thing to do, considering many of you are advocating the right actions that should be taken against Mr. Grippi [...]

Second-day Sectional thoughts

February
18

First off, congratulations to Division I champions Fox Lane and Division II champions Nanuet. Fox Lane broke Mahopac’s three-year championship stranglehold while the Golden Knights repeated to become Division II’s first three-time champion (Ardsley owns the other two titles).

The bad news for Division I is that Fox Lane will be tough again next year with [...]

First-day observations

February
16

I will begin with the small schools. After looking over the first-day results, it’s no surprise that Nanuet and Westlake are 1-2, respectively. They were the two best small-school teams during the regular season. It’s too bad that Conference III did not have the Conference III title match like it previously had. Nanuet and Westlake [...]
