Well…I’m not sure how to start this post other to say that, after thinking long and hard, I have decided to leave the newspaper and go in a different direction. I will be going back to school and possibly pursuing some other writing avenues. My time at The Journal News was wonderful, and getting to [...]

Just wanted to let everyone know that we will be covering the Scarsdale and Hastings tournaments this weekend and will be getting and re-capping results from Eastern States as well. I will be at Scarsdale tomorrow. I would have posted this earlier in the week, but I haven’t been feeling great the past couple of [...]

Here are the results from yesterday’s tournament at Somers. Some great action, especially in the finals. Fox Lane took the team title, which may be an indicator of things to come. With the individual star power they have, the Foxes are going to be tough to beat in the Section 1 championship as they try [...]

Here are the results from the tournament at Pearl River today. It’s been a long day, so I’ll keep it short and sweet. Warwick was really impressive, as was the Nyack duo of Thakur and Marchese. There were some really exciting matches in the finals as well. Off to sleep for me now. Happy new [...]

Well I was at Clarkstown North today for an extremely fun and well-run tournament. The tournament was run in a round robin format, and the home team had a great day, taking five individual titles. I wasn’t in the office today, so I don’t have all the results from NCN duals, but I do have [...]

I haven’t spoken to anybody from Yorktown yet (I do have calls in) but the Yorktown Central Schools are closed, along with pretty much everything else, so I’m guessing NC duals will be starting tomorrow morning and not tonight. I will post any further updates.

I know people were interested in this result, so I called up Bill Swertfager and got the box. He said Monroe-Woodbury is really tough, which is no surprise considering they dominated the Section 9 dual-meet tourney thoroughly.
Monroe-Woodbury 51, John Jay 16
At John Jay
125 — Watterson (JJ) major dec. Accettari, 15-6; 130 — Franco (MW) major [...]

I was at North Rockland today, where the Red Raiders were extremely impressive in winning 63-7 over Port Chester. Results are still pouring in right now, but I thought I’d post what my colleagues have gotten on the phone thus far. As for the weekend, obviously weather could be a factor for tomorrow, and I [...]

Once again, John Jay is the Section 1 dual-meet wrestling champion. The Indians defeated Suffern in the final, 43-15 after besting Somers 50-27 in the semifinal. Carmel took third by beating Somers in the consolation match. Before I get to the box scores, I found it interesting that, to a man, John Jay seemed to [...]

Well, after a long day I’m about to hit the sack. But first, here are the results from the Tiger Tournament today. Obviously I wasn’t there, because as many times as I’ve tried to make it happen with my mind, I can’t be at two places at once. So for anyone who was there, I’d [...]

So the final four is set for Tuesday. Carmel took down Brewster tonight, 50-21 to advance to the semifinals. Some thoughts from Carmel coach Bill Twardy.
“I knew we had our hands full going up against Brewster, they’ve beaten some very good teams already,” he said. “I was nervous going into the match. My guys really [...]

I just got off the phone with Bill Swertfager of John Jay, and he reported that the Indians bested North Rockland 40-28 to move into the semis. John Jay will take on Somers on Tuesday. Swertfager said that his team “expects a battle against Somers.” Tuesday at Carmel should be a lot of fun.

For those of you who don’t already know, Suffern topped Fox Lane today, 37-30, and Somers beat Ossining, 43-37.
I spoke to Dennis DiSanto when he called in the results earlier, and he had a few interesting things to say. He pointed to two matches in particular as being key in today’s result. Joe Izzo, wrestling [...]
